The Lecturers' Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (LUMUN) was accredited as a union representing per-course instructors at MUN by the Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board in December 2006.

A first Collective Agreement between LUMUN and the University was ratified in February 2009.

On 26 April 2012, LUMUN was certified to represent Postdoctoral Fellows at MUN.

LUMUN is affiliated with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour.

The LUMUN constitution was last amended on 29 March 2017.
