Irish Loop Regional Workshop

Powell's Head Lighthouse The Harris Centre's seventh Regional Workshop was held in partnership with the Irish Loop Development Board (Zone 20) on November 23rd, 2007 at Bauline East, Newfoundland and Labrador. Attendees included participants from Memorial University as well as a variety of stakeholders from Zone 20. The purpose of this workshop was to promote Memorial University as a resource for regional policy and development throughout the province through research, teaching and outreach activities as well as to identify future opportunities within the Zone in which Memorial University could become involved.

Thirty-six people attended the Regional Workshop and the broad range of participants from Memorial University coupled with the diverse group of local stakeholders made for an informative, educational, and rewarding experience for those involved.

There were a total of 22 follow-up opportunities identified at the workshop – 11 in Social and Cultural Heritage, 6 in Labour Market Development, and 5 in Environment/Natural Resources. These opportunities will now go through the Harris Centre’s follow-up process for ideas generated at the workshops.

The workshop was held in conjunction with a Memorial Presents forum, entitled "How to Make the Irish Loop a Leader in Environmental Excellence". More information on this event can be found here.
