Join us for a Regional Workshop in Springdale

You're invited to attend a Harris Centre Regional Workshop at the Riverwood Inn in Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador, on September 26 from 8:30 to 4:00. This event is held in partnership with the Emerald Zone Corporation.

This workshop will provide an opportunity to share your work, challenges and ideas with municipal representatives; non-profit groups; small businesses; government agencies; community volunteers; and Memorial University faculty, students and staff.

Specific themes (developed in partnership with a local planning committee) include:

- Health in a rural setting: Providing services to an aging population, incorporating technology into service. provision, addressing mental health care issues
- Land use planning: Mediating competing needs between agriculture, mining, tourism and other industries; addressing the lack of a land use registry; accessing Crown land.
- Business development: Tackling human resource issues; growing small businesses; developing and connecting with the mining industry; dealing with changes in core industries.

This full-day workshop will also include a lunchtime Memorial Presents Public Forum on the regionalization of public services and economic development. This will be presented by Dr. Kelly Vodden of the Environmental Policy Institute/Social Sciences Division, Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, as well as informed panelists. All are welcome to attend the Memorial Presents forum, including those unable to make it to the full day Regional Workshop. Registration to the lunchtime session is included in all Regional Workshop registrations.

Registration is free and breakfast and lunch are provided by the Harris Centre. Travel subsidies may be available for people in the local area and for graduate students, please get in touch for more information.
