Attend our Regional Workshop in Port aux Basques
Community leaders in Southwest Newfoundland: Would you like an opportunity to share your work, challenges and ideas with others? Would you like a chance to discover new opportunities for collaboration in your region?
Memorial faculty, staff and students: Would you like an opportunity to meet with community members in Southwest Newfoundland, share your work (research, teaching or outreach) and help guide regional priorities for future Memorial collaboration?
If so, then consider attending this Regional Workshop on April 25, 2012!
It will be held from 8:00am-4:00pm at St. Christopher's Hotel, Port aux Basques
The themes are listed below; however, the sub-themes will likely grow as the workshop date gets closer.
- Community Wellbeing: declining volunteerism, housing shortages, lack of employment, employability issues, and food security
- Transportation and Infrastructure: ferry, road, and air travel
- Natural Resources: fishery, oil and gas development, mineral development, agriculture, and aquaculture
- Tourism, Culture and Heritage: marketing and developing an effective tourism strategy
This workshop will include a lunchtime session provided by the Rural Secretariat, while a Memorial Presents public forum will also be held the evening before the workshop. The topics of these sessions will focus on issues of importance to the region, and will be announced soon.
Workshop registration is free and meals during the workshop are provided by the Harris Centre.
