Personal Profile

I am a Full Professor and the Research Chair in Subsea Communications at Memorial University, which I joined in 2005. In 2013 I was a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, and University of Brest, France. Previously, I was with the New Jersey Institute of Technology, USA, and Polytechnic Institute of Technology, Romania. In 2000 I held a Royal Society scholarship at Westminster University, UK, and in 2001 I was the recipient of a Fulbright fellowship at Stevens Institute of Technology, USA.

My research interests include 5G wireless systems, blind signal identification and parameter estimation techniques, transceiver optimization algorithms, cooperative communications, resource allocation, as well as optical and underwater communications. I have authored more than 180 internationally referred journal and conference papers in these areas.

I serve as editor-in-chief for the IEEE Communications Letters, and was an editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, guest editor for IEEE Communications Magazine and other prestigious journals. I have contributed as technical symposia co-chair of various international conferences, such as IEEE ICC and Globecom, and as the general chair of IEEE CWIT. I am the chair of the IEEE ComSoc Women in Communications Engineering standing committee and a member of the Administrative Committee of the IEEE I&M Society. I also serve with different IEEE technical and awards committees.
