The fourth annual Biochemistry Summer Symposium was held on August 13, 2014, at the Fluvarium. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Alain Nepveu, Professor of Biochemistry at McGill University. This year, graduate students were competing for the L.M. Stead Oral Competition Award for Best Oral Presentation. This award was generously donated by Dr. Lori Stead and by Dr. René Jacobs, both alumni of the department.
The Department of Biochemistry welcomes Dr. Mark Berry as its new Head of Department. Educated at Sunderland University and the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Berry joins Memorial from Brandon University were he served as Chair of Chemistry (2010-2013). Dr. Berry's research interests are in the biochemistry of trace amines and their possible roles in human neurophysiological diseases.
