Studies of Visual Narrative combines visual and narrative studies to examine visual and intermedial storytelling. Researchers who engage in the study of visual narrative explore the ways in which images in a variety of media tell stories and thus at once influence and are influenced by culture.
In both their research and teaching, faculty from the Department of English cover a vast array of topics in static, dynamic, and interactive visual narratives. The diverse perspectives they adopt explore the ways in which images communicate in several genres, including film, graphic narrative, illustrated books, photo essays, literature, and television.
