Win $500 + registration costs for a leadership conference
Every student who registers for and attends SUPERPOWERS will be entered in a draw to win a leadership advancement grant: a fund of $500 + the cost of registration to go towards helping the winner attend a Canadian conference that contributes directly to their leadership development. The conference will be selected in consultation between the Student Experience Office and the winner. Additional funding to support travel, accommodations, and other costs of the conference might be available through the application-based Student Innovation Fund and the MUNSU Individual Merit Fund.
Saturday, February 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the new Medical school, at the Memorial University St. John's campus.
What are your strengths? How can you best achieve your goals? SUPERPOWERS is all about understanding and unlocking those unique combinations of talents that make us who we are. Learn more about your special combination of talents and how you might leverage them for success – whatever that looks like for you.
Everyone who attends SUPERPOWERS will get free access to the Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment, a (normally paid) self-assessment of your unique strengths. You'll learn more about what those strengths mean and how to use them. You'll also hear from key members of the Memorial extensive community on how they think about and use their own strengths to achieve their aims.
Don't wait: registration is open online!
Speakers & Sessions
Ian Froude + Maggie Burton
Memorial alum turned St. John’s City Councillors, Ian and Maggie will be speaking about their diverse backgrounds (Engineering and Music, respectively) and dynamic careers rooted in community engagement, education, and leadership.
Students will then participate in a workshop on identifying and using their strengths through Gallup StrengthsFinder, a renowned self-assessment that helps users to understand the unique combination of talents that they possess. This assessment normally costs $20 USD, but students participating in SUPERPOWERS will receive it for free!
Community leaders and members of Memorial’s community will be presenting concurrent sessions in the afternoon focusing on different approaches to developing and using your strengths. They are Josh Smee, Ailsa Craig, Lynn Walsh, and Katie Noseworthy. More info to come in the official program!
Finally, Director of Student Life Jennie Massey will be facilitating a capstone session that day, helping participants to reflect on what they’ve learned and practiced at SUPERPOWERS and how those lessons will help them lead throughout their academic, professional, and personal lives.
Parking is available for free on February 3rd in parking lot 30.
