Conference and Event Services (CES) has introduced a pilot program at Signal Hill Campus (SHC) for internal groups looking to rent space. This pilot is part of the unit’s effort to support faculty, staff and students and is also part of its effort to promote welcoming, open-door campuses under the ‘commitment to communities’ priority of the University’s new strategic plan.

Effective immediately all internal Memorial University groups booking space at the Emera Innovation Exchange (EIX) Conference Centre or the Johnson Geo Centre will receive a 10% discount on the space rental. In order to qualify for the discount, groups must be paying through journal voucher. As a reminder, internal Memorial University groups also are not assessed tax when paying through journal vouchers and all bookable space on St. John’s campus is available free of charge for members of the Memorial community for university business. Please note, this pilot offering at SHC is for space only and does not apply to services.

In addition, to assist in further welcoming the Memorial University community to SHC, a selection of short-term availability meeting rooms at the EIX will be available free of charge for use by Memorial University community members. These meeting rooms, which provide meeting space for up to 10 people, are available Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) during the business hours of 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. For your convenience, you can view availability and book these meeting rooms here. Certain restrictions will apply. For example, rooms can only be booked in this manner at most two weeks in advance and only one room is available per day per unit. These options are also available as a result of recommendations from various stakeholder groups and will be offered on a trial basis until the end of fall 2022 at which time the program will be reviewed.
