Summer 2018 Frontlines Message from the Dean
In this summer edition of Frontlines we highlight some of the equipment purchases made for the Learning Resource Centre and Cahill Nursing Simulation Room – purchases made possible through the generous donations of our alumni. Your donations are really important to the school, especially in these times of economic challenges for the province. They are greatly appreciated and help us continue to offer high quality learning opportunities for students.
As you can appreciate, we have ongoing needs to purchase and replace equipment in the labs, and in the classroom. We need new chairs in the amphitheater, and easy-to-move tables and chairs for classrooms. The latter is to help us reconfigure our spaces as needed, particularly as we indigenize our curricula and develop teaching and learning strategies reflecting these approaches.
Donations from our alumni are also used to help fund student travel to conferences such as the Canadian Nursing Students Association’s (CNSA) annual general meeting and conference held in various locations across the country. Additionally, they support student learning through provision of scholarships, awards and bursaries.
This issue includes stories about an award-winning student, a faculty member breaking new ground in the area of primary health care, photos of students at our recent graduation, and pictures of alumni at a get together this past fall.
We are focused on building connections with our alumni for the long-term, and look forward to seeing you at our next alumni event this fall, an all-classes dinner, with entertainer Sheila Williams joining us as she did for our 50th Anniversary celebrations. She’s looking forward to it, as are we, and we hope you are too. You can learn more about and register here.
If you’d like to get in touch, connect with us at MUNSONalumni@mun.ca and someone will get back to you.
Have a wonderful summer,
Alice Gaudine, PhD, RN
