Physical Science Laboratories

The Labrador Institute Research Station features three, large, leading-edge science laboratories maintained to high health and safety standards that support research and science education in the remote regions of Labrador. The labs have the capacity to support diverse research projects in many physical science fields and include:

  1. a Wet/Prep Lab
  2. an Analytical Lab; and 
  3. a Geological Sample Prep Lab.

These lab spaces contain equipment for sample preparation, sample preservation and analysis. Additionally, these labs feature:

  • A large amount of bench space

  • A new fume hood and a laminar flow clean work bench table model

  • Lab supplies including lab-carts, retort stands and clamp holders, glassware, utensils, bottle-top dispensers, pipettes, trays, soil colour charge and hot plates and lamps

  • Temporary sample, short-term acid and flammables storage space

  • An emergency shower, emergency eye-wash stations and personal protective equipment

  • Lockers for personal items

  • A full-time Laboratory Coordinator available at the facility for assistance year-round
