PhD Students
Md Nasmus Sakib Khan Shabbir (Starting September 2017): Sakib was born in Tangail, Bangladesh. He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Bangladesh, in 2012. He was an Assistant Professor at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). Previously he was a lecturer with the same University. He is currently pursuing his PhD degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research interest is design and control of high performance power electronic converters and their applications in renewable energy integration to power grids.
Cherechi Izuchukwu Ndukwe (starting September 2017, co-supervised with Dr. Tariq Iqbal): Ndukwe Cherechi was born in Mbaise, Nigeria. He received his B.Eng. Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria in 2011. He became a Graduate Assistant at the same University and Department after his compulsory national Youth Service in 2013, where he is presently serving as an assistant Lecturer. He then proceeded to the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, where he obtained his MSc. Degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2015. His master’s Degree Dissertation was focused on the “Design and Fabrication of a Low Noise Amplifier for 1.5 GHz frequency using GaAs Transistors”. His research interest is in the area of Communication Application to Power Systems, and renewable energy systems.
Mirza Jabbar Aziz Baig (Starting September 2018, co-supervised with Dr. Tariq Iqbal): Jabbar was born in Mirpur Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan. He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad AJ&K, Pakistan in 2009 and completed his M.S Electrical Engineering from Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST), Mirpur AJ&K, Pakistan in 2013. He was a Lecturer at Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST), Mirpur AJ&K, Pakistan. Previously he served as an Assistant Engineer in Azad Jammu & Kashmir Electricity Department, Mirpur AJ&K, Pakistan. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research interests include Power Systems and Renewable Energy.

Master's Students
Hla U May Marma (Starting September 2018): Hla was born in Bandarban, Bangladesh. She received her B.Sc degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh in 2015. During her final year of undergraduate program, she worked as a trainee with Energypac Engineering Ltd, Bangladesh from February 22 to March 25, 2015. In October 2015, she joined Abul Khair Steel Products Ltd., Bangladesh as a Technical Management Trainee. From July 2016 to August 2018, she served as an Electrical Safety Engineer at Stichting Bangladesh Accord Foundation, Bangladesh (a non-profit organization). She is currently a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) student at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research focuses on power system dynamics and load modeling.
Shafi Md Kawsar Zaman (Starting September 2018): Shafi was born in Naogaon, Bangladesh. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh in 2014. He served as a Lecturer at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) from February 2015 to August 2018. He is currently pursuing his Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research focuses on condition monitoring of electric machines.

1) On March 8, 2017, the M.Eng. student Amir Ahadi was awarded an IEEE IES Student Paper Travel Assistance (IES SPTA) Award for the following paper:

2) The Master’s of Engineering students, Mohammad Zawad Ali and Muhammad Sifatul Alam Chowdhury, have both received the distinction award, “Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies”, in Oct. 2018. This distinction will be annotated on their Memorial University transcripts.
3) The Ph.D. student, Md Nasmus Sakib Khan Shabbir, has received the “Graduate Student Award in Research” for his outstanding contribution in research in Mar. 2019.
4) The Master’s of Engineering student, Mohammad Zawad Ali, has received the "The Hira & Kamal Ahuja International Graduate Fellowship for the 2018-2019" in Apr. 2019.
