Patrick O'Flaherty

Patrick O’Flaherty, a specialist in the literature and history of Newfoundland, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of English at Memorial University. His formal connection with ELRC began in 1995, when he was asked to become co-editor of the planned Champlain Society volume of J.P. Howley’s selected Reminiscences. The volume, edited by W.J. Kirwin, G.M. Story, and O’Flaherty, appeared in 1997.

Since then he has worked intermittently with Kirwin to edit the complete Howley Reminiscences, the text of which is in its final stages. In the meantime, O’Flaherty has been pursuing other scholarly and literary interests. He became a member of the Order of Canada in 2006.
