Graduate Dates and Deadlines

Semesters

Memorial University has three semesters per academic year commencing with Fall:

  • Fall Semester: September 1 - December 31
  • Winter Semester: January 1 - April 30
  • Spring Semester: May 1 - August 31

Application Deadline:

  • February 1 (PhD) for Fall admission (every even year)
  • February 1 (graduate diploma and MEd) for Spring and Fall admission
  • September 15 (graduate diploma and MEd) for Winter admission

Duration of programs

  • Maximum of seven years Masters
  • Maximum of seven years PhD

Note: Students who do not complete their programs in the number of semesters of their payment plans will be required to pay a continuance fee for each additional semester required. See School of Graduate Studies Minimum Expense form.


Application Deadlines for Programs:

  • Educational Leadership
  • Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Studies
  • Educational Technology*
  • Post-Secondary Studies

February 1st - Begin the program either spring (May) or fall (September) semester

    • (Note: Decisions made end of March/beginning of April)

September 15th - Begin the program winter (January) semester

    • (Note: Decisions made end of October/beginning of November)

*Semester start and other important dates at Cape Breton University may differ from Memorial's. It is the responsibility of students taking CBU courses to note the differing dates for course add, drop, commencement, end, etc.

International Applicants

International applicants needing to go through the Visa process, MUST apply for Fall Semester only. This is to allow sufficient time to attend to the planning procedures required for coming to Canada (study permits, financial planning, finding a place to live, etc.).

To be considered for the fall semester, international applicants need to have the application and supporting documents submitted by the February 1st deadline of each year.


Note: International applications submitted for the 2019-2020 Spring Semester will be considered for the 2020-2021 Fall semester.


Application Deadlines for Programs:

  • Counselling Psychology 

February 1st for all applicants

  • Full-time students - start September in the year they apply

(We are not currently considering applications for this program. We would encourage you to consider our other Master of Education programs at this time. Applications for the Master of Education in Counselling Psychology will resume in Fall 2020 for consideration for admission into the Fall 2021 semester. For more information or advice, please feel free to contact our office.)


Note: No winter admission for Counselling Psychology program.

Canadian Applicants - $60 / non-Canadian Applicants - $120

Late Applications

Due to the volume of applications received and the processing procedures involved for each competition we are unable to accept applications received after the advertised programme deadlines.
