Guests of grads

On the day of convocation

Family and guests should arrive with the graduating student.

Graduands enter the Arts and Culture Centre using the Grad Entrance (the North Accessible Entrance adjacent to Prince Philip Drive) and follow signage. From there, you will proceed to the gown room to collect academic dress and stage card, and then on directly to your assigned seat in the auditorium. Grads must arrive at least one hour prior to their ceremony start time.

Guests of graduands enter the building via the Main Entrance (under the archway) where they will proceed directly to their assigned seats. Guest seating will be assigned in pairs (i.e., same bubble), with vacant seats between each bubble.

Graduands should minimize bringing personal belongings to convocation. Backpacks or other large bags or items will not be permitted in the auditorium and therefore should be left at home. To avoid congestion, there will be no coat check service. Should there be inclement weather, a coat rack will be available to graduands to hang their outerwear; guests can take their coats to their seats. Memorial University and the Arts & Culture Centre cannot be responsible for securing personal items.

Each ceremony is about 2 hours in duration.

Parking at the Arts and Culture Centre

Parking is limited at the Arts and Culture Centre on the day of convocation. Parking for graduates, family and guests is free and available in the front parking lots facing Allandale road. It is recommended that you arrive at least one hour prior to the start of the ceremonies to secure parking. Carpooling and taxis are recommended.

Parking towards the back of the building is reserved. There is a parking attendant who will direct you away from this area.

Accessibility at the Arts and Culture Centre

The Arts and Culture Centre is wheelchair accessible. Please contact the Arts and Culture Centre head usher at 729-3650 if any guests attending require assistance on the day of convocation. Inquiries regarding accessibility and accommodations for graduating students only can be directed to the Convocation team via email at convocation@mun.ca.

Guest Accommodations

In light of the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Memorial University’s campus and residence operation, we are sorry to share that we will not be taking any bookings in the near future. We have suspended our operation until 2022 while we focus on providing essential services to our students.

We’d love nothing more than to have you stay with us once we resume normal operations, and would be happy to book your group for next season at Memorial University.
