MUN Botanical Garden offers a variety of education programs designed to enrich the Newfoundland science curriculum. Programs are designed to meet the curriculum objectives for the grade.
Offered between May and November for Grades K-12
Takes place outside, therefore, suitable clothing and footwear are necessary; this is a rain or shine program.
Available Monday to Friday.
Group size: We can host between 1-3 classes at a time, depending on the requested date and the staff available.
Can’t get away? MUNBG education staff can visit your school and can spend the day presenting to individual classes, see our Outreach Program.
1.5-hour Program | Cost: $3.00 per student
- Short classroom visit; an hour to explore the gardens, pond and a short section of the trail.
Half-Day Program | Cost: $5.00 per student | program is 3 hours.
- Classroom visit; explore the gardens and pond; nature hike on one of the trails; hands-on activity.
Full-Day Program* | Cost: $8.00 per student
- Classroom visit; explore the gardens and pond; a more in-depth nature hike; hands-on activity; nursery tour; compost area exploration and game.
- The program can run 9:00 am - 2 pm with a 1-hour lunch break.
- * This program is weather dependent due to limited indoor lunch-time space, it also depends on the class size.

|K & G1||Butterflies Up-Close||Learn all about butterflies, from their lifecycles to their relationships with plants and flowers. If you have raised butterflies in your classroom, this is the perfect place to release them!|
|G2 to G4||Plants vs. Animals||Learn all about the animals that live at the Garden and why this is their favourite home!|
|K to G3||Plants, Soils, and Composting||It's what we do best! From the soil on up, learn all about what plants need and how to grow them.|
|K to 4||Halloween||Please note this program is only offered in the fall.|
|G4||Habitats||Explore the many habitats at the Garden, and learn about what makes each one different.|
|G6||The Diversity of Life in the Garden||From big to small, we'll talk dinosaurs to microorganisms. Your students will investigate what types of plants and animals live in our Garden!|
|G7||Ecosystem Discovery||Explore our Boreal forest! Investigate different ecosystems and explore succession. We will also discuss producers, consumers, and decomposers in the food web.|
|G8||Wetland Discovery||Deepen your learning about the water cycle, watersheds, and water quality while exploring the forest at the Botanical Garden.|
