The following lists events held at MUN Botanical Garden organized by FOG. These events also appear in the Garden's Calendar of Events.
Please Note: Some events are weather dependent. Please recheck for changes in dates one or two days before the date listed below by either visiting this webpage or calling the Garden (864-8590).
Annual Spring Clean-Up of the Garden
TBD, April, 2020, 10:00 am-12:00 noon (IF snow has melted and grounds are not too soft!)
Help clean up the Garden’s grounds, beds, and pathways. Please bring rakes, pruners, and gloves if you have them. Meet task coordinators in the Field Centre’s main parking lot, 306 Mt. Scio Rd., but park your car in one of the lots across the street from, and directly opposite, the Garden’s main gates.

Volunteer Trail Patrol Training
Ongoing throught the season.
Trail patrol training is for volunteers interested in walking the Garden's trails. The intent is to keep an eye out for any trail issues and to report them to Garden staff. Trail patrol volunteers are always needed; we have recently changed our trail patrol training to a mentorship-styled program. For more information and to sign-up, fill out this form.
FOG Mt. Scio Roadside Clean-Up
TBD, June, 2020
Cleanup of the road side and ditches from the Garden’s gates to Thorburn Road in support of Clean St. John’s annual anti-litter initiative. Meet the event coordinator at the Garden’s main gate. Please bring gloves. Pick-up sticks, garbage bags, and reflective safety vests will be provided.
FOG Plant Sale Tables at Field Centre
mid May to early October
A limited selection of plants propagated by FOG's Horticultural Group volunteers are offered on the outdoor sales tables located just to the left of the ramp that leads to the Garden’s Field Centre. This fundraising effort supports FOG's Annual Spring and Fall Plant Sales and usually includes perennials, ferns, shrubs, trees, and unusual conifers. Plants are grouped by use or category and labeled with basic information, and selections are updated several times a week. Sign in to the Garden's free Wi-Fi to access additional growing information and images of plants offered. Purchases can be made during the Garden’s regular business hours. The Garden accepts payments on FOG's behalf at the Field Centre Reception Desk.
Spring Plant Sale
Saturday, June 6 (tentative), 2020 10:00 am-12:00 noon (Rain or Shine)
Everyone is welcome to attend FOG’s Plant Sale. Sales typically consist of a selection of flowering perennials, shrubs, hostas, trees, and rhododendrons propagated by FOG’s Horticultural Group.
FOG's Spring Plant Sale is held outdoors in the Garden’s Nursery which is directly OPPOSITE the Garden’s 306 Mt Scio Road main gates. Watch for FOG’s roadside signs and volunteers wearing orange safety vests.
Cash, cheque, Interact/Debit (tap only), Visa, or MasterCard payments accepted. Note: Service dogs only please at this crowded venu
Mystery Garden Tour

See the Mystery Garden Tour webpage for additional information on this self-guided tour of private gardens located in and around St. John’s Metro area. FOG's share of this fundraising event is dedicated to repurposing the registered heritage building known as the Squires Carriage House. Click here to request additional information on volunteering for this garden tour as either a member of the Working Group managing the event or as a garden sitter/monitor at one of the garden tour’s stops.
