Research Statement

The research project for my thesis focuses on the Maritime Archaic component at the Beaches site (DeAk-1), in southwestern Bonavista Bay. Test pits will be dug in the intertidal zone to try to determine the extent of the site into the southern cove, and to locate an appropriate area to excavate. Data collected from the intertidal zone has the potential to help explain information already obtained from the upland section of DeAk-1, as well as from sites on other parts of the Island and possibly add to the chronology of Maritime Archaic Indian occupation on Newfoundland.
