Duleepa Wijayawardhana, BA(Hons.)'96, MA'97
I will be a lifelong fan of my time at Memorial. After graduating from Memorial with a BA (Hons) and MA as an international student from Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, I went onto work for BioWare Corp. in Edmonton (now Electronic Arts), MySQL (the world's most popular open-source database), and the company and team I helped create with other Memorial Alumni, Empire Avenue Inc. (now Empire.Kred). These days I am the CTO for California-based Farside HR Inc. while also serving as Tech Director for Terminals Inc, a video game PR technology company. I also am a founding Board member of Innovate Kingston which is putting on the largest social innovation event in Canada in Kingston (The Breakout Project) in May 2017. During my tenure at Memorial I was in several student societies including the German and History Societies, the MUN Shaft Society, the co-editor of The Muse, a radio DJ at CHMR and a volunteer wherever and whenever I could. On graduation in 1996, I was awarded the Birks Medal for Student Achievement and am a Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies. Lately I’ve been mentoring technology businesses through the Genesis Center including the amazing folks and Memorial alumni at HeyOrca! I have a deep vested interest in making sure Memorial functions well and for all its constituents including the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. I hope my deep experience in business and Memorial’s history will help in guiding Memorial to a great future.
