Ocean Frontier Institute

Bringing together researchers, industry, and government to solve complex ocean problems.

The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) is a collaborative ocean research institute that is designed to deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Established in 2015, research is focused on three key areas: achieving net zero, protecting biodiversity, and sustaining bioresources.

OFI represents a historic partnership between Memorial University, Dalhousie University, the University of Prince Edward Island, Université du Québec à Rimouski and Université Laval. The institute’s research is made possible through funding from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund and various private and public-sector organizations.
