Memorial University has recognized the research contributionsof Professor Jie Xiao by awarding him a University ResearchProfessorship in Mathematics and Statistics, the Department's sixth such honour. The title is the most prestigious award theuniversity gives for research and goes to faculty who havedemonstrated a consistently high level of scholarship and whoseresearch is of truly international stature. Professor Xiao’s research and teaching interests lie in geometric analysis andpartial differential equations. He has published more than 50 papers in leading journals and written four books. In 2009, hewas awarded the Dean of Science Distinguished Scholar Medal for his contributions in teaching and research.
