Departmental Colloquium
Dr. Benoit Collins, University of Ottawa

Random techniques have been used with great success in orderto solve important problems in quantum information theory. Inthis talk I will describe two random matrix theoretic techniques(Weingarten  calculus and operator norm estimates) that wereinitially developed in the context of free probability theory. Bothtechniques turn out to be very useful in order to study minimumoutput entropy of typical quantum channels.
