Committee Reviews

Each year Environmental Health and Safety conducts a review of committees to ensure they are in compliance with the OHS Act and Regulations. This review looks at:

-Does committee have a Terms of Reference?

-Are meetings held at least quarterly?

-Are minutes recorded on Workplace NL’s OHS minutes form?

  • Are minutes sent to Workplace NL?
  • Are minutes posted prominently in the workplace?

-Does the committee consist of at least 2-12 employees, where at least 50 per cent of the membership are employee representatives?

-Have all committee members completed the OHS committee training?

-Are the names of the current committee members posted in a prominent place at the workplace?

-Can employees not on the committee identify members of the OHS committee?

-Does the committee have a means of communicating with all building occupants regarding OHS committee business?

-Is the workplace inspected at least annually (note: this inspection can be divided out over the full year)?
