Academic Advising Sessions and Math Placement Test

Registration for Academic Advising Sessions and the Math Placement Test in Nova Scotia is now closed.

For those who missed the opportunity to write the Math Placement Test, you can register for the test during regular registration. Search for 1MPT in the course number. The MPT will be written on the day before classes begin in September.

Academic Advising Sessions

The Academic Advising Centre will offer advising sessions for their Fall 2010 applicants at select locations in the Maritime region. Academic advisers will meet with applicants individually to discuss their proposed degree program, to select an appropriate set of courses for fall registration and to answer any questions about coming to Memorial University. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend an advising session for accurate academic advice to ensure they are on the right track from the start.

Math Placement Test (MPT)

Academic advisers will administer the Math Placement Test (MPT) to applicants in the Maritime region on behalf of the Department of Math and Statistics.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to write the MPT prior to their arrival on campus in September. This can reduce anxiety for applicants whose course selection is significantly dependent on their MPT score. Writing the MPT while in high school ensures that math skills are at their sharpest; this may not be the case at the end of a long summer break. Applicants who do not need math for their proposed degree program should consider writing the test in case they later decide to change to a program which requires math. Writing the MPT prior to arrival on campus will allow students to concentrate on getting accustomed to university life, meeting new people and of course, having fun.
