As well, the Academic Advising Centre collaborates with many other student support units at the university to ensure that each individual is getting the help they need. University is all about learning, and learning how to be a successful university student is, naturally, a significant part of this process. The AAC is always here to support you with this.
ADJUSTING TO UNIVERSITY LIFE
As you will soon discover, the semesters at university are very short compared to the school year and go by very quickly. You will also realize that the expectations of your instructors are very different than those of your teachers in high school. As a result, the expectations you have of yourself will begin to change. Once classes begin, you need to make your studies a priority.
Here are some things to think about as you begin your first semester as a university student:
- attend classes regularly
- start studying as soon as classes begin
- keep up with assigned readings
- plan and organize a study schedule
- become familiar with the library and other resource centres
- get to know your instructors early in the semester
- ask for help when you need it
