My research is primarily dedicated to the psychological and social effects of long-term solitary confinement on adult men incarcerated in Canada. Additionally, focus will be paid to the attitudes and behaviours of correctional officers towards such prisoners. The experience of further discipline while incarcerated is greatly affected by the interactions between COs and prisoners. Such interactions are deeply influenced by the orientation of the correctional officer; whether it is rehabilitative or punitive. My research with elucidate the effects of either orientation on the treatment of prisoners held in isolation.
