SUBJECT: Memorial University president to visit Labrador

Dr. Axel Meisen, president and vice chancellor of Memorial University, will visit Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 to meet with community leaders and will be available to meet with media representatives.
On Monday afternoon, Dr. Meisen will travel to Sheshatshiu to visit a local school with Dr. Elizabeth Penashue who received an honorary doctor of laws degree at Memorial’s fall convocation.
Dr. Meisen’s trip to Labrador builds on several key visits he has made this year to various other parts of the province, including Labrador City, Port aux Basques, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brookand Marystown.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay is the site of the Labrador Institute of Memorial University which was built to stimulate, co-ordinate and support major university projects and programs to promote the well-being of the people of Labrador.
Dr. Meisen will be available to speak with the media on a number of issues including Memorial University’s role in Labrador and about immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador and the ongoing development of the provincial economy, and the role of universities in fostering innovation in the Atlantic economy.
