SUBJECT: Founder and CEO of Quorum Group of Companies to speak at Aldrich Lecture at Memorial University
DATE: Feb. 19,2003
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the School of Graduate Studies at Memorial University will hold the 2003 annual Aldrich Interdisciplinary Lecture. The Aldrich Interdisciplinary Lecture will be presented by Wanda Dorosz, president and chief executive officer of the Quorum Group of Companies.
For many graduate students, the transition from university to the "real world" can be uncertain. What comes next? What does it take to build a successful and productive career? Is a graduate degree enough? In her lecture, Beyond Skills: The Road to Sustainable Success, Ms. Dorosz will argue that it is not. The public is invited to attend this lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the Royal Trust Atrium of the Business Administration Building.
Ms. Dorosz founded the Quorum Group of Companies in 1987 and is one of the few Canadian women in the venture capital industry. She is currently a director of numerous private, public and not-for-profit organizations including the York University Schulich Business School Advisory Board and Investors Group. She has served on the University of Toronto Governing Council and on the National Advisory Board on Science and Technology (NABST) as an appointment of the Prime Minister. Ms. Dorosz received a bachelor of education (secondary) with distinction from the University of Regina and an LLB first Quartile from the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1975.
In conjunction with the annual lecture, the Graduate Students' Union organizes an interdisciplinary conference, which allows graduate students to present and discuss their research. The 2003 conference will feature approximately 60 presentations and will for the first time include submissions from undergraduate honours students. The conference will be held in the Business Administration Building on Feb 25 and 26. Abstracts of the presentations can be viewed on-line under the events category at www.mun.ca/gsu.
Complimentary parking will be available in Lots 22 and 16A.
