SUBJECT: Deadline for Irish-Newfoundland fellowships extended to April 8, 2005
DATE: March 21,2005
Memorial Universityof Newfoundland has announced details of the selection process for this year’s Coracle Fellowships. Announced by President Axel Meisen in January, the fellowships promote exchanges between Newfoundland and Ireland by providing funding for travel and subsistence costs of Coracle Fellows. The fellows, who will be selected on the basis of the contribution they expect to make to strengthening ties between Ireland and Newfoundland, will normally be leaders in education, government, business, labour or the cultural industries.
This year’s Coracle selection committee will be chaired by Dr. David Graham, dean of the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University. The committee also includes the deans of the faculties of Business, Engineering and Science, and Tim Murphy, deputy clerk of the Executive Council, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The deadline for submission of applications and nominations for the fellowships has been changed. The deadline has now been set as Friday, April 8, with announcement of the selected fellows to follow in early May. A public information session to provide details of the fellowship program will take place on the Memorial campus from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2005, in room A-1043, Arts and Administration Building, located on Memorial’s St. John’scampus.
