The Stokers Group of the Rotary Club of St. John’s is presenting a benefit concert featuring pianist Ian D. Sutherland on Thursday, June 3, at 8 p.m. in Memorial University’s D.F. Cook Recital Hall. Mr. Sutherland, who holds a bachelor of music (honours) in piano performance from Memorial, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree here, has chosen an evening of romantic piano music featuring works by Beethoven and Liszt. Proceeds from this concert will help fund a water and sewer system for the Salvation Army-run hospital in Zimbabwe run by Memorial medical graduate and Newfoundlander Dr. Dawn Howse. Tickets are $15 ($12 for seniors and students) and are available at the Arts and Culture Centre box office (729-3900), Bennington Gate Book Store in Churchill Square, Parkdale Pharmacy on Elizabeth Avenue and The Kirk on Queen’s Road.
