SUBJECT: Memorial University to hold Ceremony of Remembrance on the St. John’s campus
DATE: Nov. 7, 2013

Memorial University will remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice during a special Ceremony of Remembrance on the St. John’s campus at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 8. The ceremony will take place in the D.F. Cook Recital Hall in the School of Music.
The university was founded in 1925 as a living memorial to those who fought in the first and second world wars. Each year, a Ceremony of Remembrance is held in association with Remembrance Day.
Members of the public, students, faculty, staff, retirees and alumni are invited to attend the ceremony, which pays special tribute to the 30 former Memorial students who fought and died in the First World War and the Second World War.
Memorial President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gary Kachanoski will bring remarks on behalf of the university. Dr. Luke Ashworth will be the master of ceremonies. Poems will be read by students, staff and faculty members of the Memorial community who are descendants of veterans of the Great War and various university-affiliated organizations will lay wreaths.
The ceremony will be webcast live at www.delts.mun.ca/portal/live2.php.
Memorial University will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, to mark Remembrance Day. No classes are scheduled for that day.
