|SUBJECT:||Memorial University acknowledges tuition freeze|
|DATE:||Feb. 14, 2004|
Memorial University today commented on the decision by the provincial government regarding a tuition freeze at the university. John Ottenheimer, the minister responsible for post-secondary education, made the tuition announcement on Wednesday.
The university and the provincial government agree that any freeze would not extend to international undergraduate students. "Memorial announced increases in international undergraduate student fees last year, and those changes will remain in effect," said Dr. Meisen, Memorial's president.
Dr. Georgina Hedges, acting chair of the Board of Regents, said, "The university looks forward to discussing with government over the coming weeks the future budget of the university to ensure the quality and diversity of its programs and ways Memorial can assist the province with its development and financial difficulties."
