SUBJECT: An evening with Holocaust survivor Dr. Philip Riteman

DATE: Nov. 1,2010

The Faculty of Arts, the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development and Flanker Press present Dr. Philip Riteman speaking about his new book Millions of Souls: The Philip Riteman Story.
Philip Riteman is a Holocaust survivor whose mission is to educate today’s youth on the atrocities committed against millions of Jews and Gentiles by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime. He moved to Newfoundland after the Second World War and lived in St. John’s until 1980. He currently lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dr. Riteman was awarded an honorary doctorate from Memorial University in 2006.
Millions of Souls is told in three parts. First is an account of life in Dr. Riteman’s hometown in Poland and his experience as an eyewitness to the struggle for survival in the concentration camps. Second is the story of Dr. Riteman’s exodus to Newfoundland following the war, where he discovered that there was still some humanity left in the world. Finally there is the story of Dr. Riteman today, and his commitment to spreading his message of love and tolerance.
Millions of Souls will be available for sale and Dr. Riteman will be happy to sign individual copies.
The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the Reid Theatre, Arts and Administration Building. Please note the original location for this talk was the D.F.Cook Recital Hall. The venue has been changed due to audience demand.
Admission is free, but RSVP is required. Please RSVP by contacting the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development by e-mailing rsvpalumni@mun.ca  or by calling 709-864-2313.
