SUBJECT: Memorial University's Telemedicine Centre/TETRA celebrates 25th anniversary
DATE: Oct. 21, 2002

Over the last 25 years, Memorial University's expertise in telemedicine has made the Telehealth and Educational Technology Resources Agency (TETRA) Centre an internationally-recognized leader in the use of information technology and telecommunications to non-urban, remote and isolated areas. Pioneered by the Hon. Lt. Gov. A.M. House, TETRA's extensive resources are now used by a province-wide consortium including health, education (secondary and post secondary), social, government and private agencies.

On Monday Oct. 28 and Tuesday Oct. 29, TETRA will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a conference titled The Way Forward: Telemedicine to e-Health. Events take place at the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre. Highlights include a plenary session the morning of Oct. 28 from 9-10:30 a.m. with talks on the possibilities for fundamental change in the health system in the electronic world, the interaction of informatics in medical schools, and keys to effectively managing change. On Oct. 29 from 9-10:30 a.m., a plenary session will look at opportunities and framework for development in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Media are invited to attend the plenary sessions. An agenda is attached.
