Dr. Axel Meisen, president of Memorial University of Newfoundland, will host a reception in honour of Memorial University faculty receiving New Opportunities certificates from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The reception will be held at the Junior Common Room, R. Gushue Hall, Irwin's Road on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, from 2-3 p.m. CFI board members, who are in St. John's for their annual general meeting will be on hand for the reception.
Faculty members receiving certificates are: Dr. Christina Bottaro, Chemistry; Dr. David Thompson, Chemistry; Dr. Gordon Todd Andrews, Physics and Physical Oceanography; Dr. Anthony Gamperl, Ocean Sciences Centre; Dr. George Mann, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science; Dr. Faisal Khan, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science; Dr. John Shirokoff, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science; Dr. Lisa Rankin, Anthropology; Dr. Guang Sun, Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Robert Gendron, Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Jules Dore, Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Daniel MacPhee , Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Helene Paradis, Faculty of Medicine.
The Canada Foundation for Innovation supports research excellence, and helps strengthen research training. Under the New Opportunities Fund, the foundation provides infrastructure support to newly recruited academic staff. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.
