SUBJECT: Workshop to explore women in politics
DATE: March 10, 2009

A special topics course on women in mass politics has morphed into a two-day workshop on women and politics that showcases students, working politicians and academics and researchers.
The workshop, scheduled for April 4 and 5, will feature student presentations, academics speaking on lessons from around the world, and a panel discussion with St. John’s South-Mount Pearl Member of Parliament Siobhan Coady, St. John’s City Councillor Shannie Duff, New Democratic Party Leader Lorraine Michael, and provincial minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment Susan Sullivan.
The women and politics workshop will be held Saturday, April 4, and Sunday, April 5, in the Junior Common Room in Gushue Hall. It is free and open to the public. Those wishing to attend are asked to register by e-mailing Dr. Amanda Bittner at abittner@mun.ca.
There will be a small fee for those staying for lunch. More information on the conference can be found at www.ucs.mun.ca/~abittner/Workshop.html.
