Dr. Eddy Campbell, an academic with strong ties to Memorial University of Newfoundland and to the province, has assumed the position of acting president and vice-chancellor of the university. He took over the role from departing president, Dr. Axel Meisen on Jan. 1.
Dr. Campbell holds two degrees from Memorial and a PhD from the University of Toronto. He will serve as acting president of Memorial until a new president is appointed by the Board of Regents. An announcement of the results of the Board’s search for a new president is expected later this winter.
Before assuming the role of acting president, Dr. Campbell served as Memorial’s vice-president (academic) since 2004. Prior to coming to Memorial as vice-president, Dr. Campbell served as associate dean of the Faculty Arts and Science at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
