SUBJECT: Memorial University Botanical Garden to hold grand opening and plant sale
DATE: June 3, 2003

Memorial's Botanical Garden, in conjunction with Friends of the Garden, will celebrate the garden's grand opening on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Highlights of the day include a plant sale, one of several fund raisers sponsored by the Friends of the Garden.

The sale starts promptly at 10 a.m. and will continue while quantities last (usually until lunchtime). Come early for a good selection. The sale takes place next to the research greenhouse (across the street from the field centre). Family fun: puppet shows, nature hikes, children's crafts and activities, face painting, and much more will be offered during the day.

Family fun activities will take place in several locations throughout the garden. Gardening demonstrations and talks: Starting at 11:30 a.m., Dr. Wilf Nicholls and the gardening staff will be presenting a variety of gardening topics in the flower garden area. Ask the Doctor: Dr. Wilf Nicholls and his gardening staff will be on hand throughout the day to answer your gardening questions and provide some local gardening advice. Refreshments: The Homestyle Market Tea Room is now open at the Botanical Garden, offering a wide range of homemade goods prepared from scratch. There will be some free refreshments available that day, including ice cream for the kids. Admission is a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Community Food Sharing Association. The garden is located on Mount Scio Road. For more information, please contact the garden at 737-8590.
