For a small fee students can smash the car with a baseball bat, crowbar or sledge hammer. All funds raised will go towards EWBs outreach and overseas work. There will also be a BBQ during the lunch hour. This event has been very successful and this year will be the biggest yet. Photo opportunities and interviews can be arranged upon request.
                When: Oct.17, 2007 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Memorial Tower, Memorial University, St. John’s
Who: Open to everyone!
Oct.17 is also the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Hundreds of events are being planned on this day around the world to try and make the voice of the poor heard. MUN Oxfam is hosting "Stand up Against Poverty" on the same day.
MUN Oxfam will have activities all over campus with the common theme of standing up against poverty. At 1:30 p.m. Oxfam will be trying to get everyone in the University Centre to stand up for 1 minute against poverty. This is part of an international event and similar events will be happening at locations all over the world on Oct. 17. This event will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for greatest number of people to stand up for a cause within a 24 hour period.
EWB is one of the most active and successful groups at Memorial University. EWB is a student based international development organization that promotes human development through access to technology. By working in rural communities in areas such as water and sanitation, food production and affordable energy, EWB has a lasting impact on the people who need help the most.
