REF NO.: 269
|SUBJECT:||Memorial University recognizes its volunteers on new website|
|DATE:||April 28, 2006|
Memorial University of Newfoundland is saluting its faculty and staff who tirelessly give up countless hours as volunteers within the community by launching a brand new website.
From April 23-29, 2006, the province is celebrating Volunteer Week 2006. This year’s theme is Volunteers Grow Communities.
The Communicator, Memorial University’s employee newsletter, has launched a special website highlighting faculty, staff and pensioners who are rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to work with a variety of organizations.
Memorial has a time-honoured tradition of giving back to the community and its employees are well-known faces on a litany of volunteer boards ranging from Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the YM-YWCA to organizations such as the Association for New Canadians and the Natural History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
With 2,300 administrative and support staff, 950 full-time faculty and 850 sessional instructors, Memorial employees are some of the most active volunteers in the province doing everything from helping preserve and promote our province’s vibrant history to co-ordinating charity walks.
