Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Newfoundland and Labrador is holding a public presentation this evening, Wednesday, April 26, 2006, in room IIC-2001 in the Inco Innovation Centre on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus.
The presentation will focus on Inco’s hydrometallurgical demonstration plant in Argentia which began operations in October 2005. The plant is designed to test hydrometallurgical processing technologies to treat Voisey's Bay nickel concentrates.
Presenters include Susan Woolgar and Tanya Power, who have had extensive involvement with the demonstration plant as part of the SGE-Hatch Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) team, as well as Nancy Leawood, who is currently involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility, as part of the assay lab.
The presentation will discuss the hydromet process, plant engineering, construction and operations.
WISE NL has two student groups at Memorial University: WISE UP (Women in Science and Engineering Undergraduate Project) and WISE GSS (Women in Science and Engineering Graduate Student Section).
Tonight’s event is free to WISE members and $5 for non-members.
