SUBJECT: Memorial's Student Volunteer Bureau to recognize top volunteers

On Wednesday, March 26, Memorial University's Student Volunteer Bureau will host a Student Volunteer Day ceremony. A number of awards will be presented at this ceremony including Volunteer of the Year, Staff/Faculty of the Year, Volunteer Centre of the Year, Volunteer Club/Society of the Year, Volunteer Residence of the Year and the David Kirkland Leadership Award. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. in West Hatcher Dining Hall. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.

In addition, the 12th annual Glenn Roy Blundon Award will be presented at this ceremony. The award is given to an individual or group who has promoted equality and accessibility for Memorial students with disabilities. Last year's recipient was Dr. Peter Golding, Department of Chemistry. The award is named for a former Memorial student and resident of Bay de Verde who died in 1984 and is remembered for his leadership and commitment to equality and accessibility issues. The campus facility named for him, the Glenn Roy Blundon Centre (University Counseling Centre), co-ordinates services for students with disabilities.
