REF NO.: 98

SUBJECT: Experience medical school first hand at Memorial University

DATE: April 4,2017

Members of the public with an interest in health care are invited to register for the Faculty of Medicine’s 2017 Mini Med School.

Participants will learn about popular topics in medicine, such as how medical advancements will affect them, and experience lectures and discussions just like a medical student.

Sessions will run for five weeks from April 5-May 10 on Wednesday evenings and will be held in the Faculty of Medicine’s lecture theatres on the St. John’s campus. A broad range of topics will be covered and will be relevant to all ages, from high-school students who may be interested in medicine as a profession to seniors with an interest in health and health-related topics.

Presentation highlights include Dr. Margaret Steele, dean of medicine, talking about adolescent depression on Wednesday, April 5 and on Wednesday, May 10 and medical students demonstrating how 3D printing is becoming a health-care resource.

Participants outside of the St. John’s metro area will have the option to log in remotely to each session by webinar. They will be able to see the presentations, hear discussions and submit questions or comments live.

Free parking is available in lot 9L, located next to the medical school entrance on the eastern side of Clinch Crescent in St. John’s.

The cost of the upcoming class of 2017 sessions, including taxes, is $148.35 for adults and $86.25 for seniors and students.
