SUBJECT: Student entrepreneurs ready to slay the dragon

DATE: January 26, 2010

SIFE Memorial will host the final round of their fourth annual Innovation Challenge on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Five top student finalists will present and pitch their entrepreneurial business ideas to a judging panel in a setting similar to the style of hit television series Dragon’s Den. Based on these presentations, a winner will be chosen and awarded $2,500 in startup capital as well as a free space in Launch Pad, SIFE Memorial’s award-winning entrepreneurial incubation centre located on campus.
This event is open to the general public and will begin at 7 p.m. in Memorial University’s Faculty of Business Administration Building (room 1010) with a reception to follow in the RBC Atrium. The Innovation Challenge is sponsored by Cox & Palmer.
The winner of last year’s Innovation Challenge, Jason Oakley, has since gone on to win the P.J. Gardiner Award for Small Business and will travel to Vancouver later this month to represent Memorial University at the 2010 Enterprize Canada Business Plan Competition.
SIFE Memorial is a student group dedicated to finding local solutions to global economic challenges. Based on the strength of their programs, the team has been named the national champion for the last four years and has placed first, second and third respectively in 2008, 2007 and 2009 at the international SIFE World Cup competition. Their record is the best in the history of the competition.
