A concert in remembrance of Dr. John Ashton, former principal of Grenfell College, will be held Sunday, April 26.
“This concert is about remembering John with the kind of music he loved,” said Rex Brown, event organizer.
Titled Barnsley Embracing Bonne Bay, the concert will be held at 2 p.m.at the Royal Canadian Legion on West Street and will feature 10 musical acts including AcaBella, Lloyd Bartlett, Elaine Clarke and George White, Anita Best, Sherman Downey, Ivan Emke, Wayne Muggridge and Sylvia Fudge, Dave Peddle, Des Walsh and Wendy Woodland.
“The concert is being held on the anniversary of the Barnsley Football Club’s elevation to the English premiership – John was a devoted Barnsley fan,” said Mr. Brown. “The proceedings will be exclusively music in recognition of the many years that John sang at the March Hare, including the original Hare in 1987.”
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Grenfell College Bookstore, the Royal Canadian Legion and King Penney Law Offices on West Street. Net proceeds will go to the John Ashton Bursary, established at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College for students involved in international travel to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland as part of their studies.
