Admission to the Diploma program is limited to applicants pre-selected as recruit cadets by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. For information on the process of application to the RNC, please refer to RNC website, or contact the RNC Training Section at (709) 729-8232.
Applicants must also satisfy the general admission requirements of the University, and at the time of admission must normally have completed a minimum of six credit hours in English, Psychology 1000 and 1001, and Sociology 1000, or their equivalents from other recognized post-secondary institutions, OR have already completed a degree program from a recognized university. You do not need to have a university degree to be accepted into the program. Applicants can apply while working on the required courses as long as the courses are completed by April in the year which they would start the program - for example complete courses by April 2012 to start program in September 2012.
Final acceptance as a recruit cadet, following pre-selection by the RNC, is contingent on
- the assessment of a formal application for admission to Memorial University for those who are not already students at Memorial University, and
- confirmation by the university of eligibility for the Diploma Program in Police Studies.
For more information students are invited to contact the Program Coordinator. Please see http://www.mun.ca/hss/about/contact/coordinators.php for current contact information.
