Summer Russian Program in Pushkin
several years successful summer programs have been organized for Arts students
from Memorial University.
Since the inception of these programs, approximately 400 students have participated
in such ventures in Russia.
of the attractions of a trip to Russia is the beauty of St. Petersburg and
the neighbouring towns, which were once Imperial residences. Our students
study each morning at the former palace of Prince Vasilij Kochubej and live
with families in Pushkin.
tours of St. Petersburg and visits to major museums;

tour to the naval base Kronstadt, and the palaces at Oranienbaum and of Peter

of the Hermitage and Winter Palace
- a tour
by bus and boat to Valaam - museums, monasteries (Russian cuisine at a "medieval"
to the apartments of Dostoevsky and Pushkin;
- a tour
of the Yousoupov palace (where Rasputin was murdered);
- a 4 day
trip to Moscow will be arranged through the University of Moscow;
to the theater, opera, ballet and concerts;
$1.800. (CDN) by Lufthansa, St. John's to St. Petersburg; Departure date will
be the beginning of July.

- optional; certain group tours are very popular: Moscow, an overnight boat
trip to the island of Valaam and/or a day trip to Novgorod. All excursions
are optional and are not included in the costs noted above.
Usually the host families insist on showing their Canadian students the sites
of the area.
in Russia now lower than in the mid-90s and students will not find the prices
of food, transportation and entertainment in Russia high - for example, the
subway in St. Petersburg is about $0.20; good ice-cream or beer is about $0.30;
souvenirs are negotable.
