Thesis Title:

Research description:

Capitalism is widely understood as an inherently contradictory system. Most broadly, I seek to uncover the contradictions produced by capitalism that are specific to Arctic regions. I intend to research how the social, cultural and environmental implications of industrial capital development in ‘cold spaces’ undermine the future reproduction of capitalism. I intend to situate this theory within the Canadian Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions, specifically at the Rankin Inlet mine in Nunavut. My research will feed into a larger project on “adaption, industrial development and Arctic Communities” (

Research Interests:

  • Development in the North
  • Arctic Geopolitics
  • Historical and cultural geographies of Arctic regions
