Research description:
Capitalism is widely understood as an inherently contradictory
system. Most broadly, I seek to uncover the contradictions produced
by capitalism that are specific to Arctic regions. I intend to
research how the social, cultural and environmental implications of
industrial capital development in ‘cold spaces’
undermine the future reproduction of capitalism. I intend to
situate this theory within the Canadian Arctic and Sub-Arctic
regions, specifically at the Rankin Inlet mine in Nunavut. My
research will feed into a larger project on “adaption,
industrial development and Arctic Communities” (http://www.arcticnet.ulaval.ca/research/summary.php?project_id=75).
Research Interests:
- Development in the North
- Arctic Geopolitics
- Historical and cultural geographies of Arctic regions
