Thesis Title (working):

Benthic Habitat Mapping in Okak Bay, Labrador

Research Description:

My project involves the use of multibeam sonar to map substrate and associated benthic habitats in a Northern Labrador fiord. My field site is Okak Bay, a fiord in Labrador, north of the community of Nain. Although the site has remained relatively untouched, it is becoming the focus of marine harvesting activities in recent years. Habitat mapping is an efficient and accurate method by which to collect baseline information for monitoring purposes, and for identifying sensitive habitats. In the future, this will help to create sustainable harvesting practices, and to maintain ecosystem integrity.
