Visit to Labrador with Grenfell VP

During the winter of 2012 Grenfell's Vice President, Dr. Mary Bluechardt made her first ever visit to Labrador, accompanied by the Special Adviser. In Sheshatshiu, Dr. Bluechardt and Dr. Hanrahan met with the Innu Nation and visited Sheshatshiu Innu School. In Goose Bay, they met with the Labrador Institute, the Nunatsiavut Government and NunatuKavut Community Council.

Since Dr. Bluechardt's visit, Grenfell Campus has signed an MOU with the Nunatsiavut Government that guarantees Inuit students residence accommodation throughout their studies at Grenfell. Also since the visit, Grenfell Campus has hired an Aboriginal Liaison Coordinator, Janine Lightfoot, and opened an Aboriginal Student Centre in the new Arts and Science Extension.

A dedicated dog fan, Dr. Bluechardt enjoyed some traditional dog sledding while in Labrador.
